We are delighted to be working with England Netball and Shirley High School in having a major amount of work done on the netball courts we currently use at the school for our central venue.
The first part involves all the courts being resurfaced with court line markings, sockets for the new socketed posts we now have as part of health & safety, new perimeter fencing and ducting for the floodlighting and the total cost is in the region of £97,000. This work has now started and is due to be completed after Easter and we are so looking forward to seeing and using these great facilities.
The second part involves getting the floodlighting installed which we are looking into with Sport England under a new funding initiative they have in place, and again Shirley High are looking to part fund this. We the League are also looking at ways to get funding for this, as we will benefit enormously from all of this being on one site to help us improve and ensure the longevity of netball in the borough and of course CNL. This is being looked at to be done in the next 6 months and the cost for this is in the region of £47,000.

The League has a competitive Saturday League which runs from September to May, a Summer League which runs June and July and we also run an Evening League which runs from September to April. This gives our clubs and players a good opportunity of play to suit all abilities. In addition, a number of our clubs have thriving junior sections which of course is the way forward for any sport and we continue to support where we can by way of a grant scheme. Another initiative by EN is Walking Netball which is becoming increasingly popular around the country and we are looking to set up sessions during the summer to then continue as another way of helping people with their mobility of any age.
We have in excess of 50 teams playing across six divisions in the Saturday League, 23 teams playing in the Evening League and 45 teams played in the Summer League last year, where we also included Back 2 Netball teams, which is a fairly recent initiative from England Netball and Development teams which caters for our 14-16 year olds.
Having this central venue gives us a major opportunity to mentor our umpires, whether they are Learners or Qualified and want to progress with their qualifications. This ensures that we are able to provide the highest standards for both players and umpires.
We are also a very sociable League, and have an annual presentation dinner dance, tribute evenings, quiz’s and rallies, which has been made so much better with having the central venue.
In addition, the school will also be using these courts for school matches, be it their own and/or any matches/rallies organised by the Schools Section in the Borough. The County Association, which we play a major part in, will also use the facilities, therefore all current and future activity by everyone involved be it for games, coaching, umpiring, courses, training, will ensure maximum support and usage for the facilities that are now being planned.
As you can see from the above, this is a massive project backed in confidence by England Netball, Shirley High School and CNL and we do hope you will consider being part of this in whatever way you can. Be it a small or large donation, everything will be greatly appreciated and we will ensure your name is included in recognition on any notices displayed in our pavilion, in the School or any press editorial to promote these amazing projects.
Should you wish to discuss this and any other thoughts you may have please do not hesitate to contact me and thank you in anticipation of your support.
Thanks.
