Evening League 2019/20
About the Evening League
Croydon Netball League runs the Evening Netball League on Monday and Thursday evenings at Shirley High School, Shirley Church Road, Shirley, Croydon, CR0 5EF. The Evening League has been in existence for over 34 years and its main aim is to provide additional opportunities for teams of different skill levels and experience to compete in matches from September through to April each year (matches are split into Part 1- September to December and Part 2 - January to April). This season, on a Thursday evening we have split the entries into two divisions. We are delighted to welcome more Back to Netball teams to the league and hope this new format will encourage more teams to enter Part 2 of the season. The Evening League is a competitive but friendly league with the emphasis on good play and sportsmanship rather than a battle to finish "top of the table". To this end new players and teams are encouraged to take part as it offers a variety of levels of play without the pressure to collect points. To reflect this, CNL awards a trophy to the most sporting team for both nights at the end of the season. The Evening League is an excellent opportunity for new teams and players to play, good experience for players who have come back to the sport after a break (Back To Netball), training sessions for current clubs and for umpire training and mentoring which is also offered for those inclined to take up the whistle and officiate.
The matches are played at 7.30pm and 8.15pm, with three matches being played at the same time. The matches are 40 minutes in duration and are not centrally timed. The cost to enter the Evening League is £120 per half season depending on the number of teams entering. All players wishing to play in the Evening League must be afiliated to England Netball. Teams must arrange their own umpire.
